Protecting the Past 2: ‘Towards a better future with cultural heritage’ (Suleimani, Iraq, 5-8 September 2016)

We are pleased to announce that the second Protecting the Past conference will be held in Sulaimani (Iraq) between 5-8 September 2016 in collaboration with the American University of Iraq, Sulaimani (AUIS). This event coincides with the 2nd Annual Iraq and Kurdistan Region Cultural Heritage Symposium organised by the IRIS Center for Archaeology and Cultural Heritage (CACHE) at AUIS (for information concerning the 1st Symposium, which was held in 2015, see auis.edu.krd/cache).

The title of the second Protecting the Past conference is Towards a Better Future with Cultural Heritage. Between 5th and 7th of September, this conference will bring together international and local experts in the archaeology and cultural heritage management of Iraq and the MENA. Confirmed speakers include international experts such as Jonathan Tubb (British Museum), Michael Danti (ASOR CHI), and Simone Mühl (RASHID). On the 7th and 8th of September, EAMENA Oxford will provide two days of closed-door training sessions in techniques for documenting and managing cultural heritage to Iraqi archaeologists, cultural heritage practitioners and AUIS students.

More information and a preliminary programme will be published over the coming weeks on this page: http://www.protectingthepast.com/sulaimani2016/
